marché LA

marché in Sherman Oaks

I Was Raised in Sherman Oaks

I was raised in Sherman Oaks and frequently go out to eat there with family.  This was easily the most delicious and sophisticated meal I have encountered. Valley dwellers!  No need to make the trek to A.O.C. for small french plates!  The influence of that restaurant on the menu and decor is palpable, but in all the best ways.

The duck rillette was a perfect start to the meal; not too salty or heavy but full of flavor.  The figs were a fun compliment to the exquisite pork belly, which quite literally melts in your mouth. The scallops were fresh and perfectly seared.  One of the best surprises was the Moroccan squash…such complex but well married flavors (even pomegranate!) Our server was very helpful in making all of these selections.

Another reviewer said the “wine selection kinda blows.”  My father (who I ate with) is quite the wine aficionado and was very impressed by the small but deliberately chosen list compiled by Paul Wasserman. He selected a young Bandol which opened up marvelously.

In short, run, don’t walk to Marche.  As if I haven’t given enough reason already, the food (nothing over $16, apart from some specials, I suppose) and the wine are both very reasonably priced.  Save yourself a $7.50 valet charge in WeHo and eat here!
